Musical 2011

September 2, 2010

I am very excited to announce our spring musical.  After much deliberation [and suspense] we have decided to revive our 2004 production.  This is an amazing story and very near to my heart.

The Pastor
The Story of Richard & Sabina Wurmbrand

Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand were leaders of the underground church in communist Romania. After spending 14 years in prison, under the worst possible conditions, they moved to the United States and later founded Voice of the Martyrs (www.persecution.com).

Richard wrote in the book Tortured for Christ, “”If the heart is cleansed by the love of Jesus Christ, and if the heart loves Him, one can resist all tortures.”

Don’t miss the opportunity to be a part of this incredible presentation. Your chance only comes about once every 7 years. This musical is about why we do what we do.

3 Reasons to Improvise

August 18, 2010

More info at greenleafstudio.org. Enroll by calling the studio at 913-397-7071!

Get excited, folks!

1. New voice/piano instructor.  Joy Jansen is amazing!  I’m posting her bio here, but will try to get a clip of her singing up in the next few days.  She is currently accepting students on Monday and Wednesday afternoons/evenings.  She has a stellar classical foundation and a gorgeous personality. Believe me, you want to take lessons with this woman.

Joy has been singing and acting since she could walk and has a passion for music, performance, and making people laugh. Since she started taking private voice lessons in 2005, and piano lessons when she was nine, Joy has wanted to teach what she has been so blessed to learn, helping others to love and appreciate music too. She is so excited and thankful to finally get to do that through Greenleaf Academy. She believes that music is the best way to mix art, passion, emotion, and worship together, creating something meaningful and beautiful to pass on to someone in your life that otherwise you may never be able to touch. Joy has been a part of many theater productions, and also has experience with pit/music directing. She has been singing and playing for weddings, funerals, church events (worship), and recitals since age 10 and is is currently working on her music degree at Johnson County Community College. She is excited to see what new doors God will open next! Proverbs 3:5-6

2. Dance Company!

We’re giving our students more performance opportunities this year!  Open to our second year and higher dance students (ages 10 and up), this group will be led by the incredible Kim Holloway.  For audition info, call 913.397.7071.

Songwriting Course

April 28, 2010

We are beyond excited to have Mindy Edlin teaching a songwriting course at Greenleaf this summer!  The class has been moved to 4-5:30 pm and will meet on Thursdays from July 1-August 5th.  The class culminates with a coffeehouse performance of original music.

At an early age, Mindy recognized the importance of creativity through music. At the age of four, she began to take a special interest in the piano, playing by ear and participating in public performance opportunities.  By the age of fifteen, she began to compose her own songs on both the guitar and piano.  She fell in love with expressing herself through her original lyrics and melodies.   Mindy studied and lived in Nashville for five years, earning a BA in Music Business at Trevecca Nazarene University with an emphasis in songwriting.   Her work experience includes Music Publishing companies such as Universal Music Group and Lofton Creek Records.  She has taken part in many songwriter nights in Nashville including at the legendary “Bluebird Café”.  She has also co-written several songs with Nashville songwriters including Jason Duke and Dove award winner, Michael Puryear.    Mindy regularly performs in worship settings as well as at local venues and offers songwriting courses at Greenleaf Academy.

Don’t miss hearing Mindy perform at our variety night coffeehouse on Saturday, May 1st at 7 pm.  Admission is $5 and includes a beverage.  521 E. Kansas City Road, Olathe, KS 66061.  [additional parking at Olathe North High School]
